The Florida Panthers won a game, but lost some of their bite.

En route to a 2-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night at Miami, the Panthers lost leading scorer Stu Barnes, who was injured while scoring his team’s second goal. Barnes was hit in the eye with a stick and is expected to be sidelined for “some time,” Coach Roger Neilson said.

Jason Arnott had two goals and an assist as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-1, at Toronto. . . . Keith Primeau scored twice as the Detroit Red Wings beat the Jets, 5-1, at Winnipeg. . . . Stephane Richer had two goals and an assist, leading the New Jersey Devils over the Washington Capitals, 4-2, at East Rutherford, N.J. It was Jacques Lemaire’s 100th coaching victory. . . .
