COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Ventura Is Too Much for Hancock
The Ventura College men’s basketball team rebounded from its first loss by defeating Hancock, 88-70, Wednesday night in a Western State Conference North Division game at Hancock.
Hakeem Ward scored 20 points and had seven rebounds for Ventura (30-1, 10-1), which lost to Cuesta last Saturday.
Antelope Valley 114, Cerro Coso 80--Orville Turner scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Marauders (22-8, 6-1) scored more than 100 points for the sixth time in eight games in a Foothill Conference North Division game.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Ventura 76, Hancock 63--Marina Reyes scored 26 points as the visiting Pirates (24-2, 8-1) clinched at least a tie for their fifth consecutive Western State Conference North Division championship.
Canyons 107, Bakersfield 84--Melissa Dunkerley had 21 points and eight rebounds coming off the bench for visiting Canyons (27-5, 9-0) in a WSC South Division victory.
Valley 76, Santa Monica 60--Valery Brady scored 19 points in a WSC South Division game as the Monarchs (21-10, 6-3) clinched a playoff spot for the eighth time in nine seasons.
BASEBALL
The Master’s 7, Concordia 5--Mark Vail scored the winning run for the Mustangs (3-3) in the eighth inning when Jim Young drew a walk with the bases loaded in a nonconference game at Master’s.
SOFTBALL
Rio Hondo 6, Valley 5--Julie Kepner had a triple and a run-scoring single for Valley (1-1), but Rio Hondo scored five runs in the third inning of the nonconference game.
Canyons 6, El Camino 1--Lisa Kelly had two hits and drove in two runs as Canyons (2-2) won the nonconference game at El Camino.
