Forecasts of Impending ‘Big One’ Raise Trauma

Share

My husband and I are among the many thousands that fearfully and thank God survived our encounter with the 1994 earthquake. Our home on Balboa Boulevard in Granada Hills was hit very badly. At least a half a dozen homes were demolished and are now empty lots waiting to be rebuilt--or maybe not!

My complaint or criticism is with the TV media. Here we are just getting over the worst part of the disaster reactions when they are predicting the next “Big One” and saying we should prepare for it.

Have they no pity on the people who are under medical or psychiatric care, doing their best to overcome their fears and disorder caused by the earthquake? “Get ready,” they say. Other than getting water, canned goods, flashlights and so on, what else can we do? They are adding oil to the flames that are still burning. If they were so great in their predictions, where were they before Jan. 17, 1994?
