CAMARILLO : Town Center Plan Considered Tonight

Share

The Camarillo Town Center, a 39-acre retail center proposed for a parcel near Las Posas Road and the Ventura Freeway, is scheduled to be considered for final approval tonight by the City Council.

The center would be anchored by a 116,000-square-foot Target department store, a Ross store, a Bed, Bath and Beyond, and several other regionally known retailers, according to a spokesman for the developers.

A handful of restaurants would also be built on the site, which is now farmland.

The proposal was unanimously approved by the Camarillo Planning Commission earlier this month.

The site is being developed by two Orange County partnerships, JB2H and Norcan Inc.

Only state aviation officials and geological experts have voiced concern about the development.

The California Department of Transportation objected to the center’s location late last year, saying it was too close to flight paths at Camarillo Airport.

State geological officials also expressed concern that the site may be close to known earthquake faults.

However, city officials said a consultant’s study indicated that the chances of an aircraft crashing into the site were extremely remote and that further study of the site for earthquake faults would be conducted before the final store locations are determined.

The council will consider the item at

its 7:30 p.m. session at City Hall.
