Flyweight Ysaias Zamudio admittedly was a little rusty after a four-month layoff from the ring.

But that changed Wednesday night.

Zamudio, from Blythe, won a hard-fought 10-round split decision over Sammy Stewart of Los Angeles in the main event of a six-fight card at the Warner Center Marriott.

“Experience had a a lot to do with it,” said Zamudio, who improved to 37-4-1. “If I didn’t have any experience I would have been there as a target.”

In a junior welterweight bout, Jaime Ocegueda was prepared to wait and let Paolino Gonzalez tire.

But a left to the chin of Gonzalez only one minute into their scheduled eight-rounder sent Gonzalez down.

Then at the 2:01 mark, another left hand had the same effect and the referee stopped the bout.

“I had solid shots,” Ocegueda said. “I took them and that was enough.”

Ocegueda, from Pico Rivera, is 11-1-1 with eight knockouts. Gonzalez, a last minute fill-in for Joshua Renteria, fell to 9-6.

In other bouts, heavyweight Jim Mullen of Simi Valley (4-1-1) and Wesley Martin (1-1-2) of Killeen, Tex., fought to a four-round draw.

In a blood-filled bantamweight bout, Alvaro Soto (7-0-1) of Mexicali won a unanimous decision over Jaime Ruiz (5-5) of Hereford, Tex.

Ruiz, nicknamed “Slime Time,” opened a cut above Soto’s right eye with a head butt in the second round. And two punches by Soto gave Ruiz a bloody nose. By the time the fight was finished, Soto’s white trunks were stained red and Ruiz’s face was covered with blood.

But there was no question that Soto dominated the fight, staggering Ruiz in the fifth round with a series of punches.

In a six-round welterweight fight, Steve Von Schert (6-3) of Pasadena won a decision over Yoani Cervantes (3-4) of Bell.

In the evening’s first fight, Ricardo Fuentes of Azusa scored a TKO over Alejandro Gonzalez of Los Angeles at 1:06 of the second of four scheduled rounds of a super bantamweight bout. It was the pro debut for both boxers.
