1 Killed, 3 Hurt in Shooting

A youth was fatally shot and three others were injured early Sunday when an unknown number of gunmen opened fire on a crowd in front of a housing project, Los Angeles police said.

The shooting erupted at 1:45 a.m. in the 12700 block of Van Nuys Boulevard. David Duran, 17, of Pacoima, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The other three victims, Luis Ramirez, 18; Jose Garcia, 18, and Elfego Barajas, 22, all of Pacoima, were transported to Holy Cross and Olive View-UCLA medical centers, authorities said. They were listed in critical condition late Sunday.

Sgt. Al Yarbrough at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division said officers believe the shootings may have been gang-related. Detectives said they had no suspects.
