King Defenseman Boucher Out for Remainder of Season

The Kings suffered another blow Thursday, when test results revealed that defenseman Philippe Boucher has a torn ligament in his right wrist and will be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Boucher, 21, suffered the injury in the second period Saturday at Edmonton and will have surgery next week.

Boucher, who has one goal in six games with the Kings, was involved in the controversial six-player deal with the Buffalo Sabres last month. Goaltender Grant Fuhr, defenseman Denis Tsygurov and Boucher were acquired by the Kings in exchange for goaltender Robb Stauber and defensemen Alexei Zhitnik and Charlie Huddy.

King General Manager Sam McMaster traded for Quebec Nordique defenseman Dave Karpa on Tuesday and sent defenseman Rob Cowie to Phoenix, so he does not anticipate making any additional trades for a defenseman. Marty McSorley, sidelined because of a strained groin, might be ready to return Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks or Monday against the Dallas Stars at Dallas.

Does McMaster feel cursed?

“I don’t know,” he said. “Maybe it’s the building. Look at the Lakers.”
