Beach Bird-Feeding Ban Coldhearted
I have been very upset about an old Seal Beach ordinance regarding “feeding the birds.”
I am absolutely amazed with all the major problems in our world today that Seal Beach considers feeding the birds on their beach one of them.
We have lived in this area for 25 years and one of the nicest experiences is enjoying the beach and walking the pier. The birds are part of that enjoyment and have been for as long as I can remember.
Children in all families I know of love to feed the birds, as do many adults. This has been part of enjoying the beach for years--and now because of one disgruntled man the city has decided to enforce an old ordinance that has not been enforced for years.
Not only are they taking the only survival the birds are familiar with away from them, but they are also taking away a very warm, loving, pleasant feeling from many people who enjoy doing something for them.
El Dorado Park in Long Beach allows the many ducks on their ponds to be fed; other beaches in the area allow birds to be fed. If (the city) insists on enforcing this outdated, coldhearted ordinance, the very least the City Council could do is to possibly designate one section of the beach for bird feeding.
