SANTA ANA : City Acts on Parking Plan for French Park

Share

The City Council has approved a permit plan that will restrict parking within the historic French Park neighborhood.

Under the plan approved this week, parking will be restricted on some streets between midnight and 6 a.m. starting in early May. Cars parked in restricted areas without a permit may be towed.

Residents of single-family homes, duplexes, and three- and four-unit buildings are eligible for permits. The plan is designed to reduce parking congestion, theft from vehicles, and encourage residents to use on-site parking, a report to the council stated.

French Park is bounded by Civic Center Drive, Washington Avenue, Poinsettia and Main streets.

The program will affect all but the southwest area of the neighborhood for the first six months. If conditions in the neighborhood have not improved significantly, city parking officials may expand the restricted areas through the remaining portion of the area.

About a dozen residents attended the meeting to show support for the plan and several said they believed it would deter crime in the neighborhood, reduce traffic and accidents and make streets safer for children.
