FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Council Acts to Cut Flood Insurance Rate
The City Council has adopted a revised flood plan ordinance that might help residents buy lower-cost flood insurance.
Most of the city is within a flood plain because of its proximity to the Santa Ana River. Should there be a 100-year flood, the city would likely experience some flooding, Fire Chief Bernard F. Heimos said.
Ordinance revisions included appointing the fire chief, instead of the planning director, to oversee matters relating to the flood plain and including in the ordinance the Federal Emergency Management Agency updated Flood Insurance Study and map.
The revisions made the city eligible to apply for a 5% reduction in flood insurance premiums for residents.
