NHL ROUNDUP : Flooding Around San Jose Forces Game’s Postponement

A game between the San Jose Sharks and the Detroit Red Wings was canceled Friday night because of flooding on roads surrounding the San Jose Arena.

The game was tentatively rescheduled for April 7 in San Jose. The game previously scheduled for that date, against Edmonton, will be tentatively rescheduled for April 6.

Officials said almost every road leading to the San Jose Arena was flooded.

Alexei Zhamnov scored 36 seconds into the third period and Winnipeg held on to beat Dallas, 4-3, at Winnipeg in a game capped by a last-minute melee. The free-for-all erupted in front of the Winnipeg net and earned two roughing penalties for each side. . . . Joe Juneau scored on a power play with 7:02 remaining in the third period to lift Washington into a 2-2 tie with Ottawa at Landover, Md. . . . Stephane Richer capped a three-goal comeback in the third period to lead New Jersey to a 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Veteran Murray Craven, who has been sitting out the season over a contract dispute and awaiting a decision on his free-agency status, was traded by the Vancouver Canucks to the Chicago Blackhawks for Finnish-born Christian Ruuttu.
