Countywide : Inmate Found Dead in Jail Cell
A 50-year-old man with a history of diabetes and heart problems was found dead in his Orange County Jail cell late Tuesday, authorities said.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was booked into the jail’s medical ward by the Anaheim Police Department at 9:30 p.m. Monday on suspicion of forgery, petty theft and possessing stolen property. He was held on $10,000 bail, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Tom Garner.
Just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, another inmate noticed that the man, who was lying on his bed, was not breathing. Deputies began performing CPR and paramedics were summoned, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, Garner said.
As with all in-custody fatalities, the district attorney’s office will investigate the circumstances of the death.
