LA CONCHITA : Area Water Supply to Return to Normal

Share

The water supply in La Conchita is expected to return to normal today, but as a precaution residents of the beachside community should continue to boil the water before using it, authorities said Thursday.

“At first the water will not be safe to drink or bathe,” said John Johnson, general manager for the Casitas Municipal Water District. “We need to test the water several times to make sure that it’s not contaminated.”

The boil order does not affect residents of the Rincon del Mar subdivisions, Johnson said.

Johnson said district’s staff will be working through the weekend to make sure the water is safe to use. Officials are hoping to lift the boil order as early as Monday.

About 650 of the district’s customers were left with a short supply of water when the main pipeline serving the area erupted during last week’s storms.

Meanwhile, as crew members work to install an emergency pipeline, the water district will continue sending tanker trucks full of water into the area.

Residents without the means to boil the water should mix eight drops of bleach per gallon of water and allow it to stand for 30 minutes before using, Johnson said.
