Obituaries : Nicholas J. Chakires; Founded Realty Company

Nicholas John Chakires, founder of Nick Chakires Realty Co. of Ventura, has died. He was 69.
Chakires was born in Ventura in 1925.
He graduated from Ventura High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
After attending the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, he went to work for a realty company in Los Angeles.
In 1962, he founded his own company, opening one office in Los Angeles and later adding a branch in Ventura.
Chakires, who spent much of his free time playing golf, chose not to retire, said his brother Andy Chakires.
He worked until he was hospitalized shortly before his death and died Monday at the Veterans Westwood Hospital in Los Angeles after a brief illness.
In addition to his brother, Chakires is survived by a 3-month-old son, Kevin John, of Los Angeles, his longtime companion Rosa Fajardo of Los Angeles and several cousins.
Funeral services are pending at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura.
