‘Save Our City’

Share

Have we of Thousand Oaks lowered ourselves to the type of politics where a bunch of “good old boys” with money are going to tell us how not to vote?

This is to be accomplished, according to Brian Collier, president of Citizens to Save Our City, by negative campaigning against any City Council candidate other than their hand-picked Mike Markey.

It is an insult to the intelligence of the Thousand Oaks voter that this group thinks that we do not realize what a mockery they are making of campaign spending limits with their planned advertising blitz.

Wake up, citizens of Thousand Oaks, and vote for the candidate (whomever that might be) who best represents your goals for the future of Thousand Oaks and not the desires of Citizens to Save Our City.

I commend Brian Collier for being an activist (“Activist Takes Aim at 2 Officials,” March 5). Sixty-seven percent of our nation’s registered voters didn’t take the time to vote in the last November election.

Nevertheless, I’m a little befuddled by Mr. Collier’s attack against Mayor Zukowski and Councilwoman Zeanah, charging them for prompting lawsuits against the city. To my recollection, there have been two lawsuits filed against the city. One was filed by a contractor who charges his employees were injured by being forced by the city to work in the rain to complete the Civic Arts Plaza on time for the grand opening. Since Councilwoman Elois Zeanah and Mayor Jaime Zukowski were markedly absent from the opening night ceremonies, I can’t picture them pressuring the contractor to have the plaza completed in time for the grand opening.

The second lawsuit involves the Lang Ranch developer who wants to remove 100 precious oak tress to develop a storm drain ditch. Realizing the aesthetic and traditional values the oaks have for the residents of our community, Councilwoman Zeanah and Mayor Zukowski have taken stands objecting to the removal of the oaks.

It seems to me that the rightful leaders of a committee to save our city should be Councilwoman Zeanah and Mayor Zukowski.
