A motorist believed to be under the influence of drugs ran a red light and collided with a second car Tuesday morning, killing its driver, authorities said.

Bruce Badger, 40, of Valencia, died at the scene of the accident, which occurred about 8 a.m. at McBean Parkway and Newhall Ranch Road, said California Highway Patrol Officer Michelle Esposito.

Eddy Sanders, 47, also of Valencia, was driving north on McBean Parkway when the traffic light at Newhall Ranch Road turned red, Esposito said.

“Traffic on Newhall Ranch Road began moving through the intersection and (Sanders) continued on without slowing or stopping,” she said. “He collided with the side of (Badger’s) vehicle.”

Badger, in a compact car, was killed on impact, Esposito said.

Sanders was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia with moderate injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and will be booked when he is released from the hospital, Esposito said.
