Like many of the pop crooners of the ‘50s and ‘60s, Vale was sometimes guilty of melodramatic excess. Still, he was one of the premier stylists of the time and, for sheer old-fashioned romanticism, you can’t beat this collection of love songs, highlighted by “Till There Was You.”

Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (e ssential ).
