Israeli Official Says Crash May Have Been Accidental
A fatal collision in Gaza may have been an accident and not a terrorist attack as Israel initially insisted, Israel’s police chief conceded Thursday.
Two border police officers were killed Wednesday when Mufid Hajaj, 23, crashed his vehicle into an Israeli settlers’ convoy in Palestinian territory. Hajaj was then shot dead by Israeli troops.
“There are definitely facts on the ground that point to an attack,” Israeli Police Chief Assaf Hefetz said Thursday. “But it’s also conceivable this was (an unintentional) crash.”
