OXNARD : Shopping Center Seeks Lease Extension

Share

In exchange for a 10-year lease extension, the operator of a Channel Islands Harbor shopping center is proposing to take over responsibility for maintenance and landscaping of the harbor’s gateway entrance.

Mervyn Hecht, the operator of the Harbor Landing shopping center, is seeking the extension from the county, which owns the harbor. The 10-year extension would bring the remaining lease term to 39 years.

Hecht is asking for the extension because he wants to refinance improvements he has made to the property since signing his initial lease agreement with the county in 1989.

As part of the proposed extension, Hecht has agreed to pay for repairs, maintenance and landscaping of two traffic medians at the intersection of Channel Islands Boulevard and Harbor Boulevard over the term of the lease. This is expected to result in a $175,000 savings to the county.

The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to consider the extension at its regular meeting Tuesday.
