Insecticide Spraying

Regarding “Insecticide Spraying on Airlines” (The Healthy Traveler, March 12): Although a country no longer requires cabin spraying, it doesn’t mean it can’t happen anyway. Late last summer The Times reported that Australia had dropped its mandatory spraying of passengers. Since my wife was five months pregnant, we called United Airlines to confirm that our September flight would not be sprayed. They assured us it would not be. You guessed it: Shortly before landing we were sprayed--not once, but twice. Fortunately for us (and United Airlines) our 2-month-old baby girl appears to be healthy and normal.
