COSTA MESA : Hotel Pool Drowning Under Investigation

Authorities are trying to find out how a 16-year-old Los Angeles youth drowned in a hotel swimming pool while several people looked on, police said Sunday.

Juan Todd, 16, was playing in the pool at the Holiday Inn-Bristol Plaza about 7 p.m. Saturday when he sank to the bottom and failed to surface, police said. Todd was visiting Orange County to lend support to friends playing in a local basketball tournament, police said.

“Several people were there who witnessed” the drowning, Sgt. Robert Phillips said.

“There is nothing preliminary to suggest foul play, but we need to look into it,” Phillips said. “At this point, it is still unclear how this happened.”
