Alex Alvarenga’s 10th-inning single scored Britten Pond from third base to give host Moorpark College an 11-10 Western State Conference North Division victory over Ventura on Wednesday.

Pond--who also hit a solo home run--opened the inning with a single, stole second and was sacrificed to third before Alvarenga came through with the game-winner.

Gabe Kapler had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs for the Raiders (20-9, 10-5 in conference play). Teammate Ryan Briggs drove in three runs on two hits.

Justin Martin (3-1) earned the victory, allowing one run on three hits in four innings of relief.

Moorpark starter Trevor Leppard was rocked for five runs in the seventh, giving the Pirates (15-9-1, 9-6) a 9-7 lead.

Mission 12, Pierce 4--Doug Jarvis doubled twice and drove in three runs and Anthony Martinez also had two hits and three runs batted in for the Free Spirit (7-22, 3-12) in a WSC South Division game at Pierce.

John Novak slugged a three-run home run for the Brahmas (16-13, 12-3), whose pitchers issued seven walks and hit four batters.

Hancock 13, Oxnard 4--Josh Silverstein went two for two and scored a run, but it wasn’t enough for the Condors in a WSC game at Oxnard.

Ray Clinton (3-2) picked up the loss for the Condors (16-14, 5-9).

Azusa Pacific 8, The Master’s 5--The Mustangs took a 3-2 lead into the seventh, but allowed six runs in the Cougars’ final two at-bats of a nonconference game at Azusa Pacific.

SOFTBALL

Hancock 1, Pierce 0--The Brahmas fell to 13-10, 6-4 in WSC play when Hancock scored on a controversial play in the top of the fourth.

Hancock second baseman Theresa McNeil scored from third after J.J. Miranda collided with the Brahma first baseman on a groundout.

McNeil reached base on an error, stole second and was singled to third by Denise Dufrene. McNeil held at third on Miranda’s ensuing grounder to Pierce third baseman Julie Kawamoto.

Kawamoto’s throw barely beat Miranda at first, where Miranda knocked Pierce’s Anna Calzada to the ground. The collision allowed McNeil to score. Pierce’s coaches argued in vain that Miranda committed interference.

Bulldog pitcher Nece Ahumada had a no-hitter until Kim O’Leary opened the bottom of the seventh with a single. She was sacrificed to second by Calzada, but Ahumada retired Brede Nivens and and Bobbie Dushane on fly balls to end the game.

Moorpark 3, Canyons 0--Dayna Skinner, Andy Dominguez and Vicki Vasquez all had run-scoring doubles for the host Raiders (12-8, 9-1) in a WSC game.

Kelly Lovato (11-6) struck out four and scattered seven hits to earn the victory for Moorpark, which remained in sole possession of first place.

Lisa Kelley was two for three for the Cougars (12-10, 5-5).

Antelope Valley 4, Chaffey 3--The Marauders’ Cindy Sims went two for four with a triple and Jody Snelling went the distance for her 12th victory as Antelope Valley (17-7, 5-1) beat host Chaffey (19-7, 4-2).

Sims belted her triple in the fifth inning, then scored the Marauders’ winning run on a sacrifice fly by Monica Dopson.
