EL MONTE : Robbery Suspects Arrested After Truck Runs Out of Gas

Share

Two men allegedly robbed a market Friday and then led police on a 90-minute chase that took them through Orange County and back to Los Angeles, where their truck ran out of gas.

No one was hurt in the chase or the robbery, police said. Officers arrested the men about 8:30 a.m. on the southbound Harbor Freeway.

The pursuit began shortly after 7 a.m. when the manager of Carlton’s Market called 911 and said he had been robbed, El Monte police dispatcher Mike Snook said. The manager gave the dispatcher a description of the suspects’ vehicle and a partial license plate number. He also told the dispatcher the suspects had at least one gun.

The California Highway Patrol spotted the vehicle and gave chase, with speeds reaching 100 m.p.h. A police helicopter followed the pursuit, which was covered on live television.

As the suspects were traveling on the San Gabriel River Freeway, they apparently threw the stolen money, about $200, out a window, Snook said. It was not known if the money was recovered.
