Career Anxiety Makes the Long Climb to Wasserman’s Office

Share

Well, well, well. Finally the powers that be have to now answer to an even higher power (“MCA Shake-Up Inspires Collective Career-Anxiety Attack,” April 11). With all due respect to Mr. Wasserman and Mr. Sheinberg, welcome to the game!

But from one who works in the very lower ranks of this business, I can perhaps offer them some empathy, and I feel I speak for most of us “little people” who are victims of “meetings behind closed doors,” “We’re not sure where we are going right now with this project,” “We’ll get back to you.”

For all the craftspeople, designers, actors and other “bottom feeders” that make the films happen, we wait but don’t get phone calls returned, and then wait days and weeks before we hear those oft-repeated words from some other power-that-be’s bottom feeder, “Uh, we’ve decided to go with someone else.”

Oh, the wasted hours we’ve spent preparing and waiting for the ominous answer to come from all those “closed-door” meetings. Wondering if the mortgage deadline can be met and trying to ignore the growing pile of bills that glares at us as we try to fax yet another resume.

So now a couple of executives have had to live in doubt for a few days. Well, all I can say is welcome to the game.!
