His first playoff game in two years. His home state. Overtime.

Michael Jordan time?

Of course.

It was as if he had never left. Jordan scored 48 points--10 in overtime--and the Chicago Bulls took the home-court advantage away from the Charlotte Hornets with a 108-100 victory Friday night.

Just call him Jaws.

“I felt like a shark in the water,” he said. “I saw blood. I just had to attack and bite the right person.”

The whole Charlotte team felt the bite in overtime when Jordan hit all four of his shots, including a 12-foot bank shot that put Chicago ahead, 100-95, with 2:03 to play.

He followed that with a bullet pass to Luc Longley under the basket that the center converted into a dunk.

Charlotte missed four of its first five shots in overtime.

In his first playoff game since the Bulls beat the Phoenix Suns for their third consecutive NBA title in 1993, Jordan hit the 40-point mark for the 31st time in the playoffs.

The best-of-five first-round series continues Sunday in Charlotte.

“For 48 minutes, we had the intensity we wanted,” Hornet Coach Allan Bristow said. “In overtime, it was the Michael Jordan show. Michael just had a terrific overtime.”

Alonzo Mourning led the Hornets with 32 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks.

Orlando 124, Boston 77--Shaquille O’Neal had guaranteed the Magic wouldn’t be swept in the first round of the playoffs again and scored 23 points--including hitting 11 of 14 free throws--to keep his word at Orlando.

The Magic had gone three-and-out last season against Indiana.

Nick Anderson added 20 points for Orlando and, like O’Neal and the rest of the Magic’s starters, sat out the fourth quarter while the bench completed the most lopsided game in Boston’s storied history.

The Celtics’ previous worst loss was by 44 points to Portland in 1977. Dee Brown led Boston with 20 points, but Dino Radja was held to 10--17 below his season average against Orlando.

San Antonio 104, Denver 88--Sean Elliott scored 13 of his 21 points in the third quarter at San Antonio, which ended that quarter with a 19-4 run for an easy victory.

David Robinson scored 14 points in 30 minutes--his third lowest total of the season--and rested most of the fourth quarter, along with other San Antonio starters. Robinson also grabbed eight rebounds.

Phoenix 129, Portland 102--Charles Barkley scored 29 points and had 11 of his 16 rebounds in the second half in leading the Suns in Phoenix. The Suns, who swept Portland this season without being able to outrebound the Trail Blazers in any of the five games, turned the trick in Game 1, 45-37, with A.C. Green collecting 11.
