NEW YORK — A one-third interest in Talkin Man, the 2-year-old Canadian champion who is among the favorites in the Kentucky Derby, has been sold by Kinghaven Farms and Helen Stollery to Vancouver financier Peter Wall.
Wall made the announcement Friday in Vancouver, British Columbia. No purchase price was disclosed.
Mike Smith, a two-time Eclipse Award winner, will continue as Talkin Man’s rider in the Triple Crown races. Talkin Man has five victories and one second in seven career starts and earnings of $677,967.
He was out of the money only once, finishing 10th in the 1994 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. It was later reported that he had a virus. The bay colt is by With Approval from the Miswaki mare Pookette.
Talkin Man will race in the colors of Kinghaven Farms in the May 6 Kentucky Derby, Stollery’s silks in the May 20 Preakness and Wall’s Colors in the June 10 Belmont Stakes.
His trainer will continue to be Roger Attfield.
