Hi. My name’s Marcia and I’ll be your prosecutor. . . . “O.J. and Marcia and Lawry’s” is the title of a less-than-shocking article in the spring, 1995, newsletter of Lawry’s The Prime Rib.

The story, sent to us by both Lou Desser and Phyllis Waggner, shows a photo of Marcia Clark in the mid-’70s when she worked as a waitress at the La Cienega eatery. There’s also a separate photo of Simpson during a visit.

“O.J. dined frequently in our Beverly Hills restaurant,” the newsletter confides, “but we haven’t been able to discover whether Marcia was ever his waitress.”

Rolling out the dough: In the fast-moving 1990s, you can even encounter an express line when buying bagels. During busy periods, East Coast Bagels of Long Beach posts a sign that warns buyers that there’ll be “no slicing” and “no toasting” in that aisle.

Meet the jury: The insistence of Superior Court Judge Lance A. Ito on approving drawings by courtroom artists before they’re published underscores his determination to preserve the anonymity of jurors in the Simpson case.

It’s quite a change from the custom of half a century ago.

When accused murderer Fred Stroble went on trial in a highly publicized case in 1950, The Times printed the names of the jurors--as well as their home addresses--a common practice among newspapers in that more innocent era.

Our thanks to Richard Robinson, director of the Historic Newspaper Archive in Beverly Hills, who alerted us to the Stroble case.

There was, by the way, no need for a sketch artist back then, either.

The Times ran several photos of the jurors.

The tab for 1950s justice: Stroble was convicted and executed in San Quentin’s gas chamber. One newspaper report said that the 13-day trial cost taxpayers an estimated $8,500. Of course, that didn’t include the expense of housing him in the L.A. County Jail--$1.63 per day.

Holy rollers?: As The Times reported Monday, there has been a drop of 64,100 people with driver’s licenses over the last year in this state. But, certainly, not all the big names are bailing out of California. DMV records also show, for instance, that there are 16 drivers by the name of Jesus Christ in the Golden State.

Finally, a cost-of-living index that’s meaningful: A survey by the Assn. of Chamber of Commerce Executives found that a McDonald’s Quarter Pounder with cheese costs about $2 in Southern California compared to $2.60 in Juneau, Alaska.

But the same plate is priced at just 88 cents in Las Cruces, N.M. What do they serve there--coyote burgers?
