Santa Ana OKs Owning 3 Dogs

Share

Pet lovers may now legally keep three dogs at their homes instead of two, following action by the City Council to amend a longstanding ordinance.

The council voted unanimously and without comment Monday to amend the ordinance.

City officials recommended the change after a review of laws in other cities showed Santa Ana’s limit permitting two dogs per household was unusually restrictive. Other cities generally allow three and some permit as many as four, according to a report to the board.

The Santa Ana law now states that anyone who keeps more than three dogs must comply with the city’s commercial kennel requirements.
