Share

Oxnard High School officials will host two events this weekend--a walkathon today and an all-year class reunion Sunday--to raise money for the new Oxnard High School.

The walkathon, from the old Oxnard High School on 5th Street to the new building on Gonzales Road, begins at 9 a.m. today.

About 400 people are expected to take part, said Oxnard High Principal Daisy Tatum.

Participants, who are asked to donate at least $25, will receive a T-shirt and a gift certificate from McDonald’s restaurants.

Proceeds from the event will be used to buy items that school employees will need when they move into the new building.

The class reunion will take place at the old Oxnard High School from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $50; proceeds will be used to pay for desks and other classroom equipment.

“We’ve gotten calls from members of the classes of 1917 and 1928,” Tatum said. About 200 alumni are expected to attend.
