Strong Winds Knock Out Power

Strong winds Friday kept county firefighters busy responding to false alarms while electrical workers were kept busy restringing downed power lines that knocked out service in east Ventura and, earlier in the day, in parts of Camarillo.
“The winds have been fairly strong, to say the least,” National Weather Service meteorologist Greg Martin said. He said a low pressure front inland coupled with high pressure over the ocean produced winds of 30 m.p.h. and gusts of up to 40 m.p.h. throughout the day.
Martin also predicted a windy weekend. “But the wind won’t be quite as strong,” he said.
Service to about 3,500 customers was interrupted for about an hour in parts of Camarillo shortly before 3 p.m. when winds knocked down power lines along Nordman Drive near Coe Street.
The high winds also caused a power outage in eastern parts of Ventura about 9:30 p.m. Southern California Edison officials said about 2,900 customers were without electricity immediately south of California 126.
