COSTA MESA : Two Water Workers Settle Harassment Suits

Share

Two women who alleged they were sexually harassed while working at Mesa Consolidated Water District each have settled for $85,000, district officials said Friday.

Kathy Gunter, who worked as an engineering technician for Mesa Consolidated, agreed to withdraw her sexual discrimination and wrongful termination lawsuit. Gunter originally sought $500,000 in damages.

Diedre Dembik, formerly a meter reader, withdrew her grievance and agreed not to begin legal proceedings. Dembik’s attorney, Terry A. Nelson, had given the district a May 5 deadline to resolve the issue or face another sexual harassment suit.

Dembik, saying her grievance had been ignored by Mesa Consolidated management, approached the district’s board of directors in March to try to alleviate the alleged problem.
