3 Children, Adult Die in Chicago Apartment Fire

CHICAGO —
A fire gutted the top floor of a three-story apartment building, killing four people and injuring six others who jumped from windows.
Three children, ages 2, 3 and 4, died of smoke inhalation and were found in a bedroom near the source of the Saturday fire, a fire department spokesman said.
A 40-year-old woman died when she leaped from a window. None of the others who jumped were seriously hurt.
The children’s mother jumped onto the roof of another building and was in serious condition.
Arson was suspected.
