A golf tournament next Monday at the Pelican Hill Ocean Golf Course will raise money for a new Children’s Center building at Orange Coast College.

The Orange Coast College Classic, sponsored by Mazda Motor of America, is expected to raise $50,000, Jim Carnett, director of community relations for the college, said.

About $1.2 million has already been raised for the facility, which is designed to provide affordable, comprehensive child development services to low-income OCC students. Some services are now offered in several different buildings across campus.

Construction of the new center is scheduled to begin next year.

Established in 1969, the Children’s Center is licensed by the California Department of Social Services and is monitored by the Department of Education. The center operates year-round for children from six months to six years of age.
