Religious Freedom
* I find your timing of the recent article regarding Louis Sheldon (“Rev. Sheldon Basks in GOP’s Successes”) to be too coincidental to go without comment. After a weekend of heart-wrenching film clips and newspaper articles from Oklahoma City, a call from another right-wing, “we know what’s best for you” zealot scares and angers me.
Sheldon uses his influence to attempt to rewrite the founding fathers’ words in the name of religious freedom. They were well-aware and better equipped with the firsthand knowledge of the need for religious freedom, tolerance and individual privacy in expressing one’s beliefs.
Sheldon reminds us precisely why we need to resist any intrusion by extremists into the protections we already have.
