Air Pollution Board to Lobby Lawmakers

Share

The Ventura County Air Pollution Control Board voted Tuesday to lobby federal lawmakers to protect funding for local air quality monitoring and other anti-pollution programs.

The Environmental Protection Agency is considering allocating federal block grant money earmarked for California counties to the state, which would then be responsible for disbursing the funds.

Board members said they worry that under the EPA’s proposed guidelines, the state could choose to redistribute some of the county’s clean-air money to other programs. The county air pollution district’s current budget includes more than $1 million in federal grant money.

If it was to lose some or all of that money, officials said, it would still be responsible for meeting strict federal clean-air standards.
