Prosecutors filed felony drug charges Tuesday against actor Gary Busey, less than a week after he took a near-fatal overdose of cocaine at his Malibu home.
Busey was charged with one count of possession of cocaine, single counts of possessing psilocybin and marijuana and one count of being under the influence of cocaine, Deputy Dist. Atty. Michael Wilson said.
The 50-year-old actor, who went home from the hospital Monday, is expected to surrender to authorities sometime in the next two weeks for arraignment on the charges, Wilson said. Bail was recommended at $10,000.
Busey’s fiancee called 911 Thursday night to say that the actor apparently had overdosed and was unconscious. Busey was taken to Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center for treatment, where he remained until Monday afternoon.
Investigators said they searched Busey’s home after obtaining a warrant and seized evidence that implicated the actor in the drug charges.
