CAMARILLO : Ban Sought on Lewis Road Truck Parking

Share

Concerned about the noise and visual blight created by trailer trucks parked along Lewis Road, the Camarillo City Council will ask Caltrans to prohibit truckers from parking on the thoroughfare.

In approving the measure at its Wednesday meeting, the council told city staff to apply to the California Department of Transportation for permission to install “No Parking” signs for trucks on Lewis Road between Temple Avenue and Las Posas Road, according to Tom Fox, the city’s traffic engineer.

Caltrans’ approval must be sought because Lewis Road is a state route, Fox said.

Residents living just off Lewis have complained that the big trucks are noisy, that they kick up dust and create eyesores in their neighborhood.

Truckers living in the area, however, told the council that they depend on parking on Lewis Road to be closer to their vehicles.

Fox said the city is recommending that truck drivers park their trucks in the nearby Flynn Road industrial area.
