People Should Stay Out of the Lion’s Den

Share

Twice in a few weeks I read that a mountain lion had been killed by those who I thought were supposed to be protecting it, the Department of Fish and Game.

I don’t understand why. Is the lion responsible for the pets of people who live in an area known to be the home of such wildlife? The mountain lion is just trying to survive in a dwindling habitat. If people would keep their pets indoors, or cease to ride their mountain bikes in the lion’s home or better yet not build in these areas at all, this kind of thing wouldn’t happen.

If people can’t stay out of “the lion’s den,” then the humane thing would be to tranquilize the poor critters and move them into what little remains of the remote areas. Or maybe we should just call it open season, butcher the whole species and be done with it!
