Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library hope to put more books on the facility’s shelves next year.

The organization has announced formation of a Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library Book Endowment Fund.

Vice President Ruth Ann Cooper said the $15,000 endowment will be started with money that normally goes to the library’s special children and musical programs. The programs have been canceled since January, 1994, when the Northridge earthquake damaged the library and its meeting rooms.

The library is moving its collection to the old City Hall building at 2400 Willow Lane while earthquake damage is being repaired. The temporary library is scheduled to open in early June.

Donations to the endowment fund will remain in the bank, but the interest generated from the money will be used to buy books and other libraryl materials.

“The thing about this type of giving is that it’s not just giving one time,” Cooper said. “Even just a $10 donation is going to earn interest this year, next year and in years to come.”
