GTE Foundation Donates $50,000 to Relief Effort
A nonprofit foundation representing Thousand Oaks-based GTE California has contributed $50,000 to the American Red Cross to assist flood-relief efforts in California.
The Red Cross units receiving grants are in Ventura, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Fresno, Monterey, Marin, Santa Clara and Sonoma counties.
“Whether it’s floods, fires or earthquakes, we know that we can count on the Red Cross,” said Red Keith, GTE’s California region president. “GTE worked around the clock to restore service during the floods. And as usual in the time of disaster, the Red Cross was there providing vital services.”
He said company employees worked overtime to restore telephone service and safeguard equipment during this year’s floods.
GTE’s Mobilnet unit also provided cellular phones to emergency operations centers, shelters and fire departments, he added.
The GTE Foundation is an umbrella organization funded by GTE California’s parent, GTE Corp., and its employees. The foundation ranks among the top 20 in the nation in annual contributions.
GTE California serves 3 million voice, data and video communications customers statewide.
