Fullerton School District Supt. Duncan Johnson has been chosen Superintendent of the Year by the Orange County division of the Assn. of California School Administrators, district officials said Monday.

Johnson, who will retire in June after 15 years at the helm of the elementary school district, was cited for having introduced a number of innovative programs, including an initiative to involve parents in their children’s education.

He came to the district as principal of Nicolas Junior High School in 1971, became assistant superintendent in 1976, deputy superintendent in 1978 and superintendent in 1980.
