Dow Corning Investigation Ends: The Midland, Mich.-based company said it was informed by the U.S. attorney’s office in Baltimore that the Justice Department has decided not to pursue any federal criminal charges against it related to silicone gel breast implants. Federal investigators had begun an investigation into the company’s activities involving breast implants in late 1992. But U.S. Atty. Lynne A. Battaglia informed Dow Corning on April 24 that the investigation was dropped because the government had “found insufficient admissible evidence.” Dow Corning earlier this week filed for federal bankruptcy protection, citing the high cost of defending itself against lawsuits by women who claim the implants harmed their health.
