Share

Plans for a business improvement district in Westwood Village won the approval of the Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday, clearing the way for promotional campaigns to attract new customers to the area.

The village’s 1,600 business owners will assess themselves a total of $750,000 a year to pay for marketing campaigns, special events and a management company that will clean and patrol the streets, said Tom Carrol, executive director of the Westwood Village Management Corp.

Bullock’s will pay close to $20,000 a year while small retailers will pay about $800, Carroll said. Among the special events being planned for the village are the second annual L.A. A La Carte festival and cultural events at the Armand Hammer museum.
