A May 30 preliminary hearing date was set Thursday for an ex-Los Angeles police officer who allegedly pointed a gun at a homeless woman and demanded that she perform a sex act while he was off duty.

Raymond Gerber Jr., 43, faces three felony charges stemming from the crime he allegedly committed in the early hours of Jan. 9, 1994, in San Pedro, while he was still a member of the force.

A former patrol officer with the LAPD’s Harbor Division, Gerber is free on a $100,000 bond. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Thomas Willhite Jr. set the preliminary hearing date for Gerber, who is charged with false imprisonment with use of a firearm, assault with intent to commit a felony and assault with a firearm.

Gerber is accused of assaulting Maria Nobles, who approached him in his car on West 7th Street, asking him for change, about 2 a.m.

The homeless woman, then 33, said the 12-year LAPD veteran offered to give her a ride and she accepted. But Nobles said that when she tried to leave the car, Gerber pulled her back in and demanded that she perform oral sex on him.
