C. D. (Don) Legrand, WWII Veteran and Insurance Executive, Dies at 70

C. D. (Don) Legrand, 70, an insurance executive for various prominent Orange County-based companies, including the Irvine Co. and Carl Karcher Enterprises, died Sunday at his home here.

Legrand was a senior account executive and counselor for Armstrong/Robitaille Insurance Services. He began his 40 years in the insurance industry when he and his brother Frank started their own business specializing in policies for construction and development companies in Orange County. He joined Armstrong/Robitaille Insurance Services in 1987.

“Don was a legend in the property and casualty business field in Southern California,” said Frank Robitaille, president of Armstrong/Robitaille. “He will be sorely missed for his professionalism and his ready laughter.”

Legrand was a World War II Marine Corp veteran and received two purple heart medals for his valor.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; four children, Donna Hunt, Deborah Donovan, Patricia Webster and Steve Legrand, and eight grandchildren.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Kilian Catholic Church in Mission Viejo. The family requests that contributions be made in his name to St. Kilian in lieu of flowers.
