PACIFIC 10 TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS : UCLA Men, Women Repeat as Champions

Both the UCLA men’s and women’s track and field teams repeated as Pacific 10 champions with the men winning their fourth consecutive title Saturday at Tucson.

The Bruin men’s team was led by sprinter Ato Boldon, who won the 100 meters with the best time recorded in the world this season, a 10.08. Boldon also won the 200 meters in 20.08. He becomes the third Bruin in the last four years to win both the 100 and 200 at the Pac-10 meet.

UCLA senior John Godina won the discus with a throw of 211 feet 9 inches, a meet record.

Godina is the first athlete in Pac-10 men’s history to win three consecutive shotput and discus championships. On Friday night, Godina won the shotput with the best mark in the world this season, 71-4 3/4.

UCLA finished with 163 1/2 points, with Oregon second at 142 1/2. USC was third with 122.

The UCLA women won with 149 points, and Oregon was second at 123. California finished third with 81.

It was the third consecutive time the UCLA women’s team won the Pac-10 title.

The Bruins were led by senior Dawn Dumble, who placed first in the discus with a throw of 199-9, also a Pac-10 meet record. It was Dumble’s fourth Pac-10 title.

Senior Sheila Burrell won the 100 meters in 11.63 and Karen Hecox won the 1,500 meters in 4:26.70.
