LOS ANGELES : Hearing in Dispute Over Rapper’s Estate Delayed

Share

A hearing scheduled Monday in a dispute over the estate of rapper Eric (Eazy-E.) Wright was reset for June 19 because the judge in the case was unavailable.

Several ex-lovers and business associates of Wright were due back in court Monday to continue the fight for control of Ruthless Records, the company Wright founded and left behind when he died of AIDS-related complications on March 26.

A court-appointed administrator was expected to report on the status of Ruthless Records and suggest how to keep the financially troubled company running until lawsuits related to it are resolved.

Several suits, which have been consolidated by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert Letteau, challenge a trust document and a marriage that Wright agreed to on his deathbed March 22.

While dying at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Wright married Tomica Woods--with whom he had lived for five years and fathered two children--and made her co-trustee of his estate, along with his former attorney.

An employee of Ruthless Records claims the so-called “godfather” of gangsta rap was heavily medicated and forced to sign the trust.
