Woman Honored for 4 Years’ Work

Who: Marge Harwell of Brea

Achievement: The Brea Community Services Department recently named Harwell “Volunteer of the Year.” She has served as a volunteer for four years at the Brea Senior Center and is president of the Senior Center Participant Council.

Matsushita Gifts Praised by City

Who: The Matsushita Electric Corp. of America, which has its West Coast headquarters in Cypress.

Achievement: The City Council passed a resolution praising the corporation for its donation of electronic equipment to the Cypress Police Department. Matsushita has donated video equipment, cellular telephones and television sets for law enforcement programs, including drug prevention education efforts.

New Members for City Committees

Costa Mesa has several vacancies on a number of City Council committees.

The child care and youth services committee, the human relations committee, the substance abuse committee and the access appeals board all have several openings. Each committee meets monthly and makes recommendations to the City Council.

Residents and business owners who wish to serve on one of the committees must submit a resume and cover letter, specifying the committee on which they would like to serve, to Mayor Joe Erickson at City Hall, P.O. Box 1200 (77 Fair Drive), Costa Mesa, CA 92628-1200. Applications must be submitted by Friday.

Coaches Needed for Baseball Program

The city’s Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking volunteers to coach or assist with the youth baseball/softball program this summer.

There are leagues for boys and girls, and practices are limited to twice a week. Practice sessions begin June 5, and games start June 12.

HUNTINGTON BEACH

Receptionist for Civic Center Sought

Volunteers are needed to work at the city’s public information reception counter at City Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Volunteers must be 18 or older. Duties include greeting people who visit the Civic Center, giving directions, answering phones and selling souvenirs.
