LA PALMA : Proposal Takes Aim at Dilapidated Cars
City government is cracking down on residents who store broken-down cars in their yards or driveway.
The City Council has tentatively approved an ordinance that would enable police to issue $37 citations to residents who ignore city warnings about inoperable cars.
The ordinance “would authorize a peace officer to cite those difficult violations for which we are unable to obtain compliance,” said Paul Pitts, city director of building and safety. He added that police would be called in only as “the last resort in achieving compliance.”
Pitts said only a handful of residents ignore warnings, but that police enforcement is needed for those who do.
The City Council agreed and approved the first reading of the ordinance. It is scheduled for second and final reading June 6. If passed, it would become law in early July.
