They got lasagna. They got linguine and macaroni.

In fact, thieves got $30,000 worth of pasta when they stole a tractor-trailer rig last weekend loaded with Borden’s best from a parking lot in the 17300 block of Brookhurst Street, authorities said Monday.

On Friday night, a driver on his way from Arizona to deliver a truckload of dried pasta to San Diego decided to spend the night at his Fountain Valley home, Police Sgt. Dann Bean said.

Because commercial rigs aren’t allowed in residential neighborhoods, the man decided to park it in an office building parking lot.

When he arrived early the next morning to hit the road again, all that was left of the noodles shipment was a few shards of glass from his truck, Bean said.

“Apparently, someone broke into the tractor portion of the truck and took off with it,” Bean said. “Whether they knew what’s in the back or not, I don’t know.”

Borden’s officials were not available for comment Monday and police did not release the driver’s name. Detectives had no leads, but are looking for a truck with “Knight Transportation” inscribed on the sides.

“I don’t know what they [are] going to do with the pasta,” Bean said, “I guess they could eat it.”
